Travel trends are once again predicting one of the busiest holiday travel seasons on record. TSA is projecting to screen over 18 million passengers across the country from Nov. 26 to Dec. 2.

Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is providing the following tips for smooth travel this Thanksgiving.

  • Refer to TSA’s 2024 holiday travel and packing tips to avoid any delays at the checkpoint. Start by packing an empty bag and inspecting every pocket and compartment.

  • Familiarize yourself with the parking lot enhancement project at ROA and give yourself ample time to locate parking. The most availability will be found in the Economy Lot across Aviation Drive which is $8 a day. Follow signage and use the crosswalk closest to the Rental Car Facility to cross Aviation Drive. Preferred Parking closest to the Terminal is a daily maximum of $16 a day and Standard Parking is a daily maximum of $12 a day in the rest of the lot in front of the Terminal.

  • Download your airline’s mobile app for the most up-to-date flight information, to track your checked luggage, navigate your connecting airport, and more.

  • Don’t cut it close when arriving at the Airport. Plan on getting to the airport at least two hours before your scheduled departure time to park your car, check a bag, pass through security, grab a quick bite, and get to your gate. This is especially important if you need to visit your airline's check-in counter.

  • Avoid idling at the curb if picking up a passenger. All lots are free for the first 30 minutes. Ask the passenger to give you a call when they have retrieved their bags so there is room at the curb for everyone.

Thank you for flying ROA!
