ROA shares spring break travel pointers for a smoother trip

Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport offers the following travel tips to help ensure a stress-free spring break experience.

Download your airline’s mobile app to get the most up-to-date flight status, track checked bags, navigate any connections, and more.

Start packing a bag that is already empty. Unzip every compartment and know what’s in your carry-on before arriving at the airport to avoid any delays at the checkpoint. Have a question about what you can bring through security? Visit https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/all or contact @AskTSA on social media or via text at 275-872 (“AskTSA”) on any mobile device to get answers in real-time.

Check your identification before you arrive at ROA. As of February 1, 2026, passengers without a valid form of ID will be required to pay a $45 fee. Learn more.

Give yourself plenty of time to find parking. Familiarize yourself with ROA’s parking options. With increased passenger volumes expected, your first choice of parking may not be available. Questions? Call 540-362-1999, ext. 239.

Don’t cut it close. We suggest arriving at least 2 hours before departure. That way you will have time to find parking, check a bag, go through security, grab a coffee or snack, and get to your gate. If you are traveling on one of the first flights out in the morning, give yourself extra time to get in the security line as this is a busy time at the checkpoint. ROA TSA opens at 4:15 a.m.

Curb space in front of the Terminal is reserved for active loading and unloading of airline passengers. No waiting or parking allowed. If picking up a passenger, have them give you a call when they have collected their bags and are walking out. If you arrive early, the Cell Phone Lot is located across Aviation Drive at the entrance of the Economy Lot, or you can park and come in to wait. The first 30 minutes of parking are free in all lots. Never leave your vehicle unattended in front of the Terminal.

As always, thank you for flying ROA!
