ROA Shares Holiday Travel Tips for a Smoother Journey
A smoother journey out of ROA during the holidays begins with planning ahead. The Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport (ROA) shares tips for travel planning, packing, and more.
- Check to make sure you have a form of acceptable identification. This could include a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, passport, and more. ROA TSA also participates in Virginia Mobile ID.
- Review TSA’s packing resources to reduce delays at the checkpoint. As always, start by packing an empty bag. If traveling with gifts, TSA recommends keeping these items unwrapped in the instance officers need to inspect them.
- Familiarize yourself with the parking options at ROA. Economy Parking (located across Aviation Drive) has a daily maximum rate of $10. Standard Parking (the rear portions of the lots in front of the Terminal) has a daily maximum rate of $12. Preferred Parking (the front portions of the lots in front of the Terminal closest to the crosswalks) has a daily maximum rate of $14. - Expect the unexpected when traveling during the holidays. Delays across the air system due to weather and passenger volume are possible. Download your airline's mobile app to access your latest flight status, view other flight options, track your checked bags, and navigate connections.
- Give yourself plenty of time at the airport. We recommend at least two hours to locate parking, check bags, go through the security checkpoint, and grab a snack or reading material.
- Curb space in front of the Terminal is reserved for active loading and unloading of airline passengers. No waiting or parking allowed. If picking up a passenger, have them give you a call when they have collected their bags and are walking out. If you arrive early, the Cell Phone Lot is located across Aviation Drive at the entrance of the Economy Lot, or you can park and come in to wait. The first 30 minutes of parking are free in all lots. Never leave your vehicle unattended in front of the Terminal.
