How to Get to ROA from Your University

This guide provides transportation resources to help you plan your trip to Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport (ROA) from your university or college. More ground transportation options can be found here.
 

Virginia Tech

Students and university employees can take the Smart Way bus to ROA from the Maroon Loop, Bay 1, on the Blacksburg campus. It takes about 1 hour and is free of charge with a Hokie Passport. Refer to the schedule. The bus operates Monday - Saturday. The same bus returns to the New River Valley and Virginia Tech.

Radford University

Students and university employees can take Radford Transit. It is free for students and employees with university identification from Draper Hall or the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences on campus to Laurel Street in Christiansburg. Passengers can pick up the Smart Way bus at Laurel Street for service to ROA. Visit the Radford Transit site for routes and schedules. Visit the Smart Way bus site for the schedule.

Liberty University

Students and university employees can reserve a shuttle ride at least 48 hours in advance for direct service to ROA. Reservations can be made through Liberty University's website. Passengers can also use the Greater Lynchburg Transit Company buses with their Flames Pass. Route 4 departs from Wards Road and connects to the downtown transfer center. Students can take the Amtrak Northeast Regional from Kemper Street to the Roanoke Amtrak station and take Valley Metro or Smart Way to ROA.

Roanoke College

Students and university employees can take the 92 Valley Metro bus route from East Main Street (eastbound) at Strawberry and stop at Third Street Station to take the Smart Way bus or route 25 Valley Metro bus to ROA.

Hollins University

Students and university employees can use rideshare services to access ROA. Hollins University is approximately 10 minutes from ROA.

Virginia Western Community College

Students and university employees can take the 56 Valley Metro bus route from Colonial (northbound) at VWCC and stop at Third Street Station to take the Smart Way bus or the route 25 Valley Metro bus to ROA.
 

Ferrum College

Students and university employees can take the Ferrum Express from Stanley Library to Roanoke, then walk to Third Street Station to take the Smart Way bus or route 25 Valley Metro bus to ROA. The Ferrum Express stops in Roanoke on Saturdays only.
