ROA’s tips for stress-free Memorial Day and summer travel
The summer travel season is here!
Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport is excited to kick off the summer travel season. With a higher volume of passengers expected, ROA is sharing travel tips to help make passengers’ journeys smooth from take off to touchdown.
- Check to make sure you have a form of acceptable identification. This could include a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, passport, and more. ROA TSA also accepts Virginia Mobile ID.
- Review TSA’s packing resources to reduce delays at the checkpoint. As always, start by packing an empty bag and check your bag after you pack.
- Familiarize yourself with the parking options at ROA. Economy Parking (located across Aviation Drive) has a daily maximum rate of $10. Standard Parking (the rear portions of the lots in front of the Terminal) has a daily maximum rate of $12. Preferred Parking (the front portions of the lots in front of the Terminal closest to the crosswalks) has a daily maximum rate of $14. - Download your airline's mobile app to access your latest flight status, view other flight options, track your checked bags, and navigate connections.
- Don’t cut it close when getting to the airport. More travelers will be on all roads and highways and it may take longer than usual to get to ROA.
- Give yourself plenty of time at the airport. We recommend at least two hours to locate parking, check bags, go through the security checkpoint, and grab a snack or reading material.
- Curb space in front of the Terminal is reserved for active loading and unloading of airline passengers. No waiting or parking allowed. If picking up a passenger, have them give you a call when they have collected their bags and are walking out. If you arrive early, the Cell Phone Lot is located across Aviation Drive at the entrance of the Economy Lot, or you can park and come in to wait. The first 30 minutes of parking are free in all lots. Never leave your vehicle unattended in front of the Terminal.
