Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program
Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport is proud to participate in the internationally-recognized Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program.
The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program enhances support for travelers with non-visible disabilities and conditions. In donning Sunflower items, individuals can voluntarily indicate they might need extra support, understanding, or more time navigating the airport environment.
Examples of non-visible disabilities are autism, mental health conditions, sight or hearing loss, chronic pain, and more.
How the Program Works
All passenger-facing ROA employees and volunteers have received Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program training. Travelers and family members can request a complimentary Sunflower lanyard, bracelet, or pin at the locations below or in advance with a flight reservation.
Participants do not need to disclose a disability.
Where to retrieve Sunflower supplies
Information Booth
Located at the base of the escalators.
Airport Police Office
Located on the second floor of the Terminal. Open 24/7.
Airline Ticket Counters
Located on the first floor of the Terminal.
TSA Checkpoint
Request a Sunflower item at the checkpoint.
The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program does not replace TSA and airline support services, nor does it provide special passenger accommodations.
Passengers should still engage TSA Cares for support through the security checkpoint and request assistance in advance from their airline for wheelchairs or other required assistance at ROA, connecting or destination airports, and onboard their flights.
